My g/f lives about 30miles east of Denver Airport. Last night, a hail storm came through around midnight.... and pounded the CRAP out of her truck (not a PSD but a sweet looking RAM 2500) and my Passat!! I haven't seen the vehicles yet, but here's a pic of the hail that was STILL THERE at 8AM!
My g/f is 5' 8" tall so those arent' super tiny hands, those are HUGE - probably close to racquetball size, and after 8hrs of melting....
I was going to spend the night out there last night but didn't... of all the luck...
Dang dude. I could tell Eastern CO was getting smacked. Funny you posted..because, I took some photos of that cumulus I was going to post for all to see, it was HUUUGE and hanging right outside the edge of town.
Here is what I saw from my front yard. For those of you in other states, I live in Englewood, which is about 50 or more miles West of where Brendan's girlfriend lives. These photos were taken looking East. This was that very same storm that dropped all that hail..pictures dont do justice to just how huge this was. Those trees in the photo are probably 6-8 stories tall.
I remember how scary those clouds to the east of Denver can look. I was heading east on 76 one night going to work and saw a funnel cloud. I had never seen one before and it scared the crap out of me. That is one thing I dont miss about living up there.
I lived in Chandler, AZ back in 2002 and during monsoon season we had one storm so bad that the area was declared a national disaster. It tore enough shingles off the houses to cover our entire street.... and with a school opposite us, there were only houses on the south side of the road...
I might post pictures of my Passat... the body was pretty nice before, but we'll see tonight...
I just spent a week in Windsor. The hail damage there from that tornado was unreal. My buddies expy got totaled and all of the dents were on the side from horizontal hail and other flying objects, it even broke out the rear windows. His wife was picking up the kids from school, which was only a block from the major damage.
Brendan,
Sorry to hear about your car, glad your truck is alright though. I saw those cummulus
clouds that Lisa took a picture of and I knew they were going to be trouble for eastern Colorado. Randy
Looking at the ONLY positive I can find is that on Thursday I'll be parking the Passat at the airport for the weekend, and it's now even LESS likely for it to get stolen. Especially since the TDI badge got busted clean off the grille... yippee for me...
You're right....my g/f just called and it's hailing again out there... but nothing like last night. I'm checking the weather tonight and my not stay out there if it's going to do this again...
