Exhaust pipe size

After Catylitic converters and before the Y on a 2007 F150 5.4L truck. I am wanting to cut just before the Y and run a true dual system. I need to know the size of the pipe? I am guessing 2.25" but it could be as big as 2.5".

Thanks,

I hope it uncorks it and it sounds better than it does. I will get pics up when I am done. I just ordered all the parts so they should be here by the end of the week. Called my buddy with the shop and welder and we might even do it this weekend if all goes right.

More to come!

Magnaflow DIDO 18" or 22" muffler, whichever one my local shop can get cheaper at dealer cost. I am torn to have more sound or not, so I will let fate choose my destiny.

Ok, NOW I'm jealous. Let me know how it turns out and I may end up doing the same thing with an X-pipe where the Y is....

You can use a magnaflow DIDO with the x pipe in the muffler. It'd be easier to run and cheaper.

The shorter the muffler the louder.

2.5" true duals is almost to big.
2.25" is what I'm runing with a homemade x pipe (thingy ma jig). Flows great, and sounds just as good.

You should be really happy with the sound after you're finished.

Good luck.

I am running 9#'s of boost behind the ole 5.4L though, she needs all of the 2.5" I have plenty of low end thanks to the positive displacement blower

That is sort of the line of thought that I had going into this. I started looking at a X-pipe for before the muffler but I am pretty sure the inside of a magnaflow DIDO isn't partitioned and when the packing burns off it will act as an equalizer. Who knows though, if I can find an x-pipe cheap enough I would put one in. I loved how it sounded on my Cobra!

the x pipe is litterly 2 pieces of pipe welded together...no partition...I think it's the same one they use on the Mustangs

It is the same they use on the mustang. The sole reason for an H pipe or an X pipe is to equalize exhaust pressure.

On another note, I found a local shop that would do the install for $159 including the muffler. I have all the bends already and tips so it looks like this is going to cost me $259, not bad.
