Thats one of the reasons I swapped in the 5spd, I didn't want to worry about overheating the tranny. I can also tow a lot faster now too.

Because in a manual five speed that came with our trucks that are so equipped the first gear is really really low! I mean freakin snails pace, I dont even use it, I take off in second gear. But of course Ive never towed anything heavier than a small perm trailer with a Atv on it. Oh and I've said it before great sounding exhuast, and as always great truck.

The ZF 5spds have the low 1st gear, the M5OD 5spds dont. The only time I use first gear is when I have a load on my flatbed or I'm pulling my friends 25' camper.

Thanks I wasn't familiar with both, I figured that they only used one model of manual transmission, in these trucks. Yeah I would think that towing a load would be the only time you would really need a the low first gear. First time I drove my truck after I bought it, I pulled out in front of three trucks. I wasnt familiar with it yet and didnt know that first gear was so low. Thank god I got out of the way or my truck wouldnt be here today. Lol.
