Don't buy anything from fordcummins, I went through them and regreted it, the manual is a complete waste of money it doesn't tell you anything you don't already know and there motor mounts aren't the best quality, I would go through Auto World if I were to do it all over again, there motormounts are a little more expensive but they are much better quality and they will answer any questions you have, they have put a couple cummins diesels in 70's fords, and they even put a cat motor in one.

Get the clutch m/c setup. I would buy mounts if you can get them. It took a bit of time to figure out where to set the engine. You really do not have too much leeway in any direction. The engine takes all of the room. The 1st gen intercooled radiator fits tight but you can use factory hoses. I have a bunch of pictures in my gallery.

I built my own perches and used the motor mounts from the Dodge. You will need some kind of a master/slave to make your clutch work. The Dodge NP205 from a first gen will not work in a Ford. (unless you want to swap axles, steering and a whole bunch of fabing for springs and shocks) The Getrag will not bolt up to a Ford NP205 transfer case without an adapter. Advance Adapters makes an adapter for this. Buy it from one of the 4X4 sites on the net and save $100 + over the price direct from Advance. With the exception of the adapter between the transfer case and transmission, I built most everything else with parts from the Dodge or metal I had around the shop. If I had it to do over the only additional part I would buy would be the linkage Advance Adapters sells for the transfercase. My home built one works great but for the $45 to buy one it wasn't worth a whole day building one.

Good look on your swap. Scot has some great information in his gallery, a lot of which I shamelessly copied. If it wasn't for him and others on this site, I would still be trying to get mine done. It sounds like you are getting a great deal on an engine and transmission, but even if you had to pay an extra grand on a whole truck I think you would be money ahead.

You could use a 94 up Dodge 241 transfer case that would put the drive shaft on the side you need.could save some money by doing some trading .Just a thought.

The advanced adapter is for a nv4500. I couldn't find anything for the getrag+ford np205 adapter.

I put a toggle switch on the little panel where the original HVAC controls were. The new ones are small enough that I have room for the tank switch on one side and the air horn on the other.

As a side note, I very rarely turn it back to factory horn. After viewing hornblasters.com videos, I also drive by golf courses and try to catch someone swinging!

jmono started pretty open ended on this thread, so I'll ask a somewhat related cummins swap q... don't wanna hijack, but here 'tis..

I've just rebuilt my 460/C6 and if I'm lucky I'll get 10 mpg; I knew this going in... I thought about a cummins swap, but the $$ didn't add up- you guys brave enough to take this on- are you truly getting 24 mpg?? I've seen guys on this board with gasoline 460s that have also claimed 20 mpg (I've never seen better than 12 on mine)-- I'm just looking for real-world numbers on these diesels... Here in central CA, diesel fuel is almost $1 a gallon more.. overall I guess I'm just trying to justify running a pig 460 while you swap guys are getting 2 1/2 times the mpg..

I truly admire you for taking on the project... and I ask; are you coming out ahead on $$ once you swap?

I do the same thing there is a golf course beside our redi-mix plant there is a tee off next to our entrance these are million heirs at this course so that make it all the more fun we doo it with the mixers to.and there is a railroad crossing there also

My air tanks are under the bed in front of the axle 2 9"x30" 125lb of air pressure

When I had the 460 stock in my truck my dad only got 6.5mpg that is what I got also with 3.54 rear end so 20mpg I don't beleave that.

I am getting 24.8 mpg with my Perkins I could get more but have to find taller gears than 3.54 and 20% overdrive.and my truck weight is 7200lb
The 72 chevy c10 with a 5 sp. weight is 4750 it has a 5.9 cummins 4.10 gears 22mpg I have 3.08 rear end ready to go in as soon as I get time.I shooting for 25 to 30mpg then I hope
My 91 chevy sub 4x4 will get 21mpg on the hwy with a 6.2 none turbo I dont even own a gasser.

10 mpg huh - consider yourself lucky! I don't see how it is possibly to get 20 mpg out of a 460 - unless it is on a trailer being pulled behind a truck with a cummins

I've been looking around at gas prices here and diesel is +/- $0.75 - $1 more. Sure it will take a long time of buying regular gas to catch up with/justify the cost of diesel swap, but getting 2 to 2.5 times the gas mileage makes the swap worth it that much faster.

The odo is broken in my 91 cummins (as are most of them) so I can't get a true MPG rating, but I'm willing to bet it is almost 2x what I'm getting out of the 360 in the crew!

This truck was getting 21.x the first time i actually clocked it closely. That was with narrow street tires. When I put the bigger tires on it, it dropped to 19.x at 65 mph. I have slowed down and would guess it is close to 20.

My '93 Dodge D250 2x4 got spot on 20 running 70 everywhere on the highway.

20mpg out of a 460? I would be shocked. My 390 never got over 13.
