need an answer quick!

I found a deal on some Explorer rims and tires. I'm pretty sure the rims are 15X7. I know the bolt pattern is the same but would these fit my '93 Aero without rubbing? The Aero uses a 14X6. I'm checking on the tire size. The price is good enough for the rims alone if I could find tires that would work for them

I did some calculations on the 275X60X15 tire dimensions. The diameter is 2.8" more then the 205X70X14 tires currently on my Aero. This should work fine right?

Can you live with the speedometer difference/error? My last Aero van I purchased had the 205 instead of the 215 tires. My wife couldn't figure out why everybody was passing her.......
The proper size put everything back to normal.

Thanks. I can live that. I'll just have to take it out and see how far off it is. I forgot about the original 215 size. It makes the error less overall.
If it goes well, I'm pickng up the Explorer Limited wheels and tires with 2K miles on them for $200.

get'em...you can only buy 'elcheapo 14's in 215 size anymore, the good US rubber
is all 205..so in 15 inch, you have far more choices in size, tire rack has the exact diameter of all their rubber, you can get a really close match of the originals
in a 15 inch size, and they will be a touch narrower, if memory serves me correctly,
so you will save gas. I waited for months to land 15 inch forged ranger rims, ended up with 14's, and found out 'ol 215s are no more. My speedo reads wrong, but i have a GPS, so you can go that route...

I'm upgrading to 15's in the near future, sissy 14" touring tires don't take much abuse.

Well crap. The seller came back with the actual tire size. They are 273X75X15 so they are 6" taller than mine
I think $200 for rims alone is worth it. I can sell the tires and get something that fits.
I agree with you guys, 15" are the future - minimum.

unless you want to go with some light truck tires that are crazy knobby (and even those are hard to find) you're right.

Go for it. I am sticking with my stock rims for now, but the tires are getting harder to find, and the LT tires for 14" rims are expensive.

Scored my rims today. The PO decided to keep the tires. That was okay with me since they wouldn't fit. Net result is I only paid $100 for four rims. They are in great shape and look like this pic.
Now I just need to decide what kind of tires to go with them. I do very little hauling and I prefer a smoother, more stable ride. I also have to deal with snow and ice.

Ok, you may still want to go a with a little bit stiffer tire for tire life. A soft rubber will wear down quickly, especially on the outside edges due to the weight of the van. Don't go with an LT tire, but find the highest weight rated passenger tire in the size you need. A larger diameter will give you more rubber which will make for a softer ride.

For what it's worth...I've seen an Aero with these "limited" rims on it...he was passing me on the freeway a few months ago, so no chance to ask if he had any rubbing problems!

I'm sure it was the rims making him go faster. I expect 10-20 more HP and 5mpg with them.

Well of course...isn't that why you buy nicer rims in the first place!

Actually, I just checked - the tires I have on my Aero now (2 year old Firestone Destination LEs, barely half worn) aren't even made in my needed size anymore...time to get new 15" rims in a year or so I think when replacement time comes.

RIGHT---we'll soon be having to run with the GIANT Impala's with the 25 inch rims when the DUB"S (20's are eventually obsolete too). I can see it now. We will even have the boom boxes all the way up. I'm older like most of you so that really won't figure in anyway. It will end up being a law. Crazy sounding? What if I'd have told you 3 years ago that we'd be paying more than 4 dollars for a gallon of gas? Why don't we do this. Screw the tires. We can rent out our Aero's as those portable storage units once a month and then we'll have the correct offset of gas money to fee our babies. Human babies? No silly-our beloved gas drinking Aerostars.
