I was thinking about swapping a late model 3v 6.8 in place of my 2000 Excursion 6.8. It has 130,000 on it and the boost in torque and HP would be useful. What all needs to be changed?
As far as I can see, the only superchargers available for the V10 are the centrifugal type. They don't help lowend torque. I see how that I really may have posted this in the wrong forum.

Wrong Forum - nah, it never hurts to get more opinions. Anyway...maybe the blower with a change in gears (like 4:30's for more 'low-end' pulling power)
Actually, this might be a good thing in the Superduty section so more people read this.
With the introduction of the 3-valve V10 in 2005, they also installed the TorqShift transmission. They also highly integrated the ABS, air-bag, and other electronic modules with the PCM (and the gauge cluster) so they all work together.
If you were to even TRY to take a 3-valve V10, with it's PCM, into a pre-05 Superduty, you would need to move over the ABS module (and everything else that goes with it), air-bag module, wiring harnesses, you name it. Even the gauge cluster.
I am making an intelligent guess that the 3-valve 5.4L V8 is the same situation.
Way WAY too much to move over.
Now, if you were to just take a 3-valve V10, transplant it into a 2-valve wiring setup, you MIGHT get away with it, but you'd need a throttle body with a cable setup, and you'd need to permanently close (or open) the butterfly in the intake for the variable-plenum-volume setup. Or modify the intake extensively - or make one.
In other words, there's so much going on, it's not just a simple engine/tranny/PCM transplant.
The only reasonable way to do the swap would be with a running mechanically sound donor truck , like a roll over totalled with a salvage title. You would then swap out entire assemblys such like everything underhood and probably the dash and wiring , using your body , frame and axles.
did someone say that a supercharger wont help with any torque????lol...duh. are you kidding me? i put a novi 2000 blower on my mustang and its making 690 hp and about 800 ftlbs of torque. without the blower it was only like 400hp and 400ftlbs of torque. yeah, superchargers dont help in making torque.
Turbochargers do not add torque below 3000 RPM in most cases (a diesel engine obviously doesn't follow this rule) but as a general rule a positive driven supercharger such as a Roots style (e.g.GMC 6-71) or a Centrifigul style (e.g. a Paxton blower) does increase low end torque, this being it's main advantage over the turbocharger.
