Hey guys: planning a trip in a few weeks (3000 miles) with my 2000 ranger w/ 107K. Any preventive maintance you experts can recomend before I hit the highway? Thanks in advance. Tim

Aside from the usual stuff like topping off fluids, I'd also make sure the tires are inflated to specs (including the spare), and I would check over the cooling system.

A tedious and time consuming job, but when was the last time you packed your front wheel bearings? I just did mine today as pm and replaced the inner seals. Not knowing the prior history of my trucks maintainence I went ahead and done it. Turns out to be a good thing that I did since part of the inner seal was intertwined in my inner bearing and that seal hadn't been properly installed to begin with. I would have lost that bearing sometime after the temp had dropped down to around -20* this coming winter. Few things fail at a good time. Check the tranny fluid, especially if it is an M5OD which has no dipstick. Indeed, with an M5OD now is the time to replace the fluid with a good synthetic.
If your tires are rated LT and a max of 50psi boot the pressure up to 42psi [any more gives a rather rough ride] to improve fuel economy.
What does your serpintine belt look like, any cracks? If so, replace it now at your convience, or possibly do so on the roadside at your inconvience.
When was the last time you changed your airfilter?
Last, but maybe not least, install a scangauge on it to give yourself a reality check on your driving habits and fuel economy. I suspect that it will pay for itself in less than one year. My truck is pre obd2 so it won't work on mine or I would have one.

Ditto on Spare Tire Pressure, then make sure all your jack parts are present and accounted for, and that you can remove and replace the spare.
Fresh batteries for your flashlight. Jumper cables. I started buying AAA Club membership, the highest level-because they will do one tow of up to 200 miles, and here in Texas the short distance limitations on most other plans are a joke! I used AAA once in Wyoming to tow my Mazda B2000, which had blown a head gasket, to the nearest dealer, which was over the mountains in Idaho, 100 miles away. No problem.
Here in Texas, I started subscribing again , then within the first year the transmission went out on my F150 45 miles from home, and they came and towed it to my trusted shop. Its great piece of mind, and my Premier Level membership runs $125.00 a year, plus has other benefits, but I buy it for the towing assurance....and all the free maps I want at their AAA Centers.

I like all of the suggestions so far.

With 107K on it, it should be ready for a major scheduled maintenance, so I'd get it up to date on all past & present due scheduled maintenance call outs.

All synthetic lube fluids might be a worhwhile consideration.

If your going to be carrying a load, or towing & have a auto tranny, maybe consider adding a tranny cooler, if you don't already have one.

Probably time for new coolant hoses, including the heater hoses too. So while doing that I might pop in a new thermostat, if it hasn't been replaced in the 107K.
When you replace the belt, put the old one under the seat as a spare, just in case!!!!

Use good gas & enjoy your trip!!!!
Let us kow how it goes.
