While playing in the locaL mud hole last night the front end goes pop, bing bam, lose front drive. Im going to try and explain best I can as to what I have done so far and i really hope some of it makes sense.
Jacked up front end, locked in both front tires, able to spin them and axles one side at a time. Both sides will spin this way but will not turn together Cant spin 1 wheel and make the other spin. So with the axles turning when I spin the tires 1 at a time i have pretty much ruled out the axles as being broke. I very well Could be wrong tho thats why you guys are the pros.
Changed out the lockouts just for fill in the blank and giggles and alot of wishful thinking. Started up the truck while on 4 jackstands all 4 spinning for about 2 mins then turned the steering wheel driver side quit turning and an evil grinding started from what sounded like the transfer case but thats not making sense to me since the front drive shaft still turning fine. Turned wheel opposite way pass side stopped spinning same sound drive shaft still turning fine.
Is it really possible for the transfer case to have crapped out on me and still be turning the driveshaft fine?? or am I totally just a nut case. any suggestions or help is greatly needed and appreciated. Its an 88 f-250 by they way.
lol I allready have a d 60 that came with the truck. Just was hoping that I had a little more time to budget the parts to rebuild it.
Now what kind of massaging of parts am I going to need to do to make a king pin high pinion d60 out of an f350 fit in to my 88 f250 or is it basiclly a direct bolt in. I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere so i will try and do a search but if someone who knows where it is wants to send the link would save me more time for the rebuild lol
Thanks for all the info with the trouble shooting you guys are great when it comes to help. 1 more question what would be the best gears to run in the d 60 Right now the truck has 36's on it yup 36s on a ttb not highly recommended I now know this but would like to maybe move up to 38's on the 60 since I have the clearance just need to figure out best gears to run. Truck set up for mud with very little road use except to cheese off the neighbors. So let the opinions fly oh and if it helps it only has a 302 for now. Hopefully in the near future depending on what parts are gonna run me. A freshly rebuilt 460 in the near future. soon as i figure out how to post pics there will be pics of the truck put up for all to critize lol. again thanks for the help
