I was on my way home and i noticed my dash lights went out then my taillights stopped workin. Has anybody else had this problem? I haven't got a chance to get under there and look, but im hopin for an easy fix I dont wanna just drive my truck in the day time.
They are probably related. I bet your parking lights don't work either. They are all on the same circuit. Your headlights might still work, but none of the others right. Well aside from brake and turn signal. They probably still work. If this is the case then I would say the the headlight switch is bad.
I don't know what year your truck is. Im not really sure on 87-91, but on 92-96 you have to remove the black bezel around the instrument cluster. The 87-91 is probably the same way, but I haven't had one apart. To remove the bezel pop off the silver gray trim peices on each side of the steering wheel. Then you just remove the four screws and the bezel should pull off. I think it has tabs on top. Before you remove this you need to remove the **** on the headlight switch. There is a little notch that you can see if the switch is pulled all the way out so the headlights are on. You have to pull that tab towards the seat to remove the ****. When you put it back on just push it on, but don't push it too far or the lights won't turn off because it will hit the bezel. I hope this makes sense. If you search for headlight switch replacement you should find a few articles that better explain how to do this. You might even try searching headlight **** removal.
