C-6 Major Issue.

While in town I power washed the undercarriage from front to rear as I have a small leak of AT Fluid at the Tail as it had to much "grit and grime" that I was unable to pinpoint the leak.

Another reply suggested to check the "gasket and seal" and I thank him for this information.

Sure enough one of the bolts was loose or I thought. Actually, it is stripped as a former owner over tightened it.

I found the leak; my case is "CRACKED" right next to the rear of the AT Pan where the "flange" is bolted to the AT.

Fortunately, I found a Utility Bed for very cheap that I am going to install which will provide more access to the C-6 while my Chassis is exposed in the event that I have no other option than to pull it.

I do not know if the C-6 is aluminum and I am hopeful that it is so perhaps someone could confirm this. If so then I can have the case welded and the stripped thread as well and then drill and tap the stripped female threads and lightly file the Case.

If it is not Aluminum then I believe that I only have two options; one being JB Weld but I have to consider the slight "expansion when hot," which should not affect the tapped threads but may separate the crack.

Secondly, continue filling AT Fluid and live with it until I have enough money to take it to a shop; $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

At least the location is considerably better than a crack elsewhere.

Contrary to some of my previous replies it is a Great Truck and also in good to excellent shape so it is a keeper; simply an over reaction on my part.

The C-6 is an aluminum case with a Steel oil pan with lots of steel bolts. Easy enough to strip threads by overtighting the bolts.

Thank you so much for providing the information and it is a "great relief" knowing that the C-6 is Aluminum!

Now that I am Pulling the Bed, for a Utility Box, it will be considerably easier to fix the AT. I can install a Heli-Coil for the stripped thread and file the crack for a better weld and file it smooth and done deal!

I need to take 1 more measurement on the Utility Box to ensure that the tires will not hit the Box Wells when bottoming out."

I am very grateful to you and the Entire Forum!!!

Take care and "keep on trucking!"

Just curious but what is the difference between a 351W and a 351M?

351W is related to the 302, Kind of a re-decked 302 and a few other pieces. Produced from 1969 up until 1996 or 97.
351M is a destroked 400, which is a higher deck version of the 351C 2-bbl. Produced from 1974 or 75 until 79, with the last few installed in ~1982.

There is alot of information and the specifics but the above is as generic as you can get.

Thanks for the education!

While in Town on Tuesday I spoke to a man who had a Shelby GT 350; it was in Pristine Condition and AWESOME!

Even though a Truck Forum I just had to share this one. A 289 with approximately 500 "Ponies."

Found leak; no worries.

After literally filling a large store bought coffee container with all of the grit, grime and grease I discovered that the Crack did not penetrate inside the case! It was a defective new pan gasket; thankfully!!!!

I am going to use a Heli-Coil for the stripped bolt and next time that I change the fluid including the Torque Converter I will then have it welded. I am pulling the bed anyway and replacing it with a Utility Bed which I have always wanted with every Truck that I have owned.

Thanks for your help and concern!
