blown head gasket
antifreeze blown out of degas bottle. white residue all over drivers side.ford has ordered new head kit with gaskets and studs.
is there anything else i should look at while the engine is out and apart??
mechanic said that it was a 5 layer steel gasket and that there is an upgrade to the heads, also, he has seen this problem with 6.0 L that tow a lot which is what i do. too much continuous boost.
the funny side of the story is the service advisor was telling me that it was a aluminum head w/o a head gasket and then he said that the base of the head was iron and the top was aluminum. the mechanic was knowledgeable.
FTE was right again saying my problem was a blown headgasket.
thanks

The updated gaskets are nice but the TTY bolts can still stretch under load and blow them out again. The only way to avod that is by changing to head studs.
Sounds like you've got a good Tech, but remember to ask if he's either replacing the heads or checking them and the block to ensure they are flat.
Since it's an 05 I'd ask him to check the HPOP fitting while he can easily get to it, the EGR valve, EGR cooler, Engine Oil Cooler, the turbo, etc...
It's worth tipping your Tech for a little extra 6.0 love!
that is the kind of inf. i need.
diesel tech said he order new heads and the egr valve and cooler was ok. i will check on other suggested parts.
he stated ford paid for arp studs for an ambulance that kept blowing head gaskets so there may be hope for me.
i'm checking with an international dealer in lewiston,id. tomorrow for arp studs.
i got to make sure that arp studs doesn't void 60k mi. of warranty i have left.
where would i be w/o FTE
