I swear, I have read about 1 billion posts about the sensor, how to replace. how to test. which ones to use. But I dont know that I have seen about what they actually do and what suffers if they fail. I have a code for mine and will be replacing it, but for right now am not stressing it because the truck runs just fine. And what does that stand for anyway?
fords are notorious for the dpfe sensors going bad.. make sure your hoses are in good shape going to it and they are special hoses.. the dpfe measures the exhaust flow to give the pcm a input signel so it can work the egr valve correctly..the egr ports on the plenum are bad about clogging up too..if your getting a code for the dpfe sensor and the egr & vacum & signel to the egr solenoid is good and the ports are not clogged, replace the dpfe sensor..
what would suffer if it was bad? Or would you even notice? DPFE stands for Differential Pressure Feedback EGR...but what does the differential mean? I know that a drive axle is called a differential, but that does not apply here.
I swear, from here on in I am just going to pm joe about everything I ever needed to know.....any idea oh how to beat the cyano bacterium in my 20gal saltwater fish tank?
Thanks again! since I am here, I am not sure if I need the 94 mazda stuff, but will get back to you once I am sure I need it. Thanks!

Have you tried triple sulfa? Tetracycline may be more effective....But you have to put up with dirty looking water and the carbon sucks it up real fast.....bio filters (under gravel filters) can deteriorate tetracycline more than other meds.
I am not a fish doctor...... But I played like I was one and killed all my fish one time.

If the EGR system does not behave properly, the engine will ping and detonate, resulting in a loss of power and fuel economy. In addition, the heat from such operation could damage the valve and/or pistons.
If the EGR gets stuck open, a severe loss of power in the opposite extreme could occur. The EGR would recirculate too much exhaust gas back into the engine, resulting in a loss of power due to dilution.
I once had a problem with my mustang (67 coupe with a hopped up 289), in the 1/4 mile about 3/4 of the way down it would start loosing power almost like it was getting fuel starved. Went around and around with it. Finally came to realize that it was getting a little hot during 1/4 mile runs...not on the street or anywhere else and only for a few seconds (could not see it on the temp gauge). What I was getting was a silent preignition, basically pinging without the ping. Solution was a colder thermostat and higher octane fuel. Problem went away and she has run great ever since.
Lesson as it applies here, pinging/preignition can happen and you cannot tell or hear it happening. Loss of power and mileage are the least of your problems in this situation. Modern motors can compensate a little by retarding the timing, but the problem is still there and can tear apart the inside of the motor.
Result, I got one last night and replaced mine in my driveway at 12am after getting home from work. took about 10 minutes and 5 of that was finding my 7mm socket.
My presumption is that in the comical context of the afore mentioned post referencing Mr Rockledges incredible amounts of obscure and accurate knowledge would be acceptable to the administrative rule for our rights and responsibilities as members in good standing and would not constitute a breach in adherence to the policies therein. Furthermore, this would not be unlike referencing the increadibly successful advertising campain of IHG under the brand name of Holiday Inn Express wherein the people who utilize their services seemingly undergo an Algernon type increase in functionality and overall intelligence. It is obvious that to the average viewer that a patron of the Holiday Inn Express chain could not be expected to perform brain surgery or any of the multitude of very specialized feats as portrayed in this ad campaign. The purpose of IHG, is to show that patrons will be well rested and able to attend to the reasons for their travel from home in the most efficient was possible. That being said.....
I still say that Joe sleeps at a holiday inn express...... Thanks again for all the help!
