I have a 05 2 wheel drive f 150 and it came with P255/65/17. I am trying to buy LT tires for it and am wondering if anyone knows how to convert tire sizes so it doesn't mess up my speedometer. In 05 a 4WD truck came with a LT245/70/17 would this work on mine. Thanks if anyone can help the people at the tire places only seem to be able to type in vehicle type on computer and get a generic size. Also if anyone has advice on a ggod tire ie> BF Goodrich, Michelin

Go to a tire mfr website, and look at the diameter of the P255/65 vs the 245/70--my guess is that they're within a percent or two in diameter and should work fine, with the 245/70 being a *bit* narrower, harder riding due to the added air pressure, and *maybe* a bit more economical in terms of gas usage (which is a good thing). It will only be 10 mm narrower (less than half an inch).
As for brands, maybe go to Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and do a search on both tire sizes, read their reviews on the diff tires they offer--you don't have to buy tires there, but you can educate yourself on what's available. The Internet is a wonderful thing.
I wouldn't worry about messing up your speedometer. Stock most of Fords trucks read 2-3mph higher than your actual speed. I just switched from 255/65/17s to 265/70/17s and now my speedometer reads almost exactly my actual speed.
x2 for 265/70/17s though wish I had 4.10 rearend. I've got 3.55s but didn't notice any difference b/n the two tire sizes except tranny seemed to be smoother, going a bit longer into the RPMs which only help the powerband a little. Got Michellin LTX M/S, looks nice.
x3 265/75/17 I got the Dayton timberline AT2's load range C. The tread was a little deeper that I wanted but it was still more of a highway dasign. Have had them on for about 4 mounths and they still look now, a tad bit more noise than the stockers. I had a friend at the tire shop got them for me at $126 each, I think they went for $155 each at reg price.
