How much $ for a...

Just sitting here thinking about the future and wanting to get an idea about how much money I would need to save up for a complete engine. I am having zero issues now and my truck is pretty much stock. My dream engine would be a spartan build with arp studs, maybe an up grade to the vgt turbo, 165cc injectors, egr delete, fass fuel system, and maybe some other odds and ends. I would like to be at or near 500 hp at the wheels...is this possible with these mods and a good tune? So has anybody done this...can I ship my old engine to Matt and have him ship me a rebuilt one? Any idea on what a full rebuilt 6.0 with these mods will cost?

Figure on around $10K for the engine, don't think that includes a new turbo... The best way to find out for sure is to contact the builder of choice and lay out the details of exactly what you want. There was a post a while back, the guy was building a 500+RWHP engine that he wanted to get 500K miles out of. From the description it was an insane build in the $40K range but if it truly is a half-million mile engine then it will meet his expectations. For me, the truck would rust out first I think before I would have that much on it....

yeah your talking big bucks to get a bullet proof 500hp engine like your thinking of. i got my truck built at a local high performance diesel shop and i was out the door for around 15k i think. i have the paperwork but i think my brain forgot the amount on purpose. that price included all the labor (testing diagnosis), new heads, racing HG's, ARP studs, 90 hp rebuilt injectors, FASS, Gauges, Banks IC, and thats about it i think. the work was done at a good shop but there prices are high and everything was pretty much full price. your build will cost similar or could be less because my truck had cracked heads and those are expensive.

Thanks for the replies...I was thinking it might be in the $10k range. My first thought was to throw a 12V cummins in it if my engine ever gave up but your still in the $10k range and you have a lot of head scratchin trying to get everything to work. I think keeping with the 6.0 will be easier in the long run.

It'll actually be a little less then 10k depending on who you use to do the labor. Everything that I have is good for 500hp. You don't need to do the racing gaskets either, I have had zero problems with stock gaskets studded. Also your heads might be able to be machined(if not then your are going to be in big bucks for replacements) and that will say quite a bit. One word of advise do everything(or as much as you can) while your doing studs and most shops will only charge you labor for the stud work and all your out is the cost of the other parts.

You Can Definitely Build A Reliable 6.0 For Less Than 10k. The Big Dogs Have Earned The Right To Name Their Price And To Some Extent Have To Because Of The Overhead Involved In Operating A Big Repair Facility. Been Building Them For Fun On The Side, So If You Want A Ballpark Price To Use For Shopping Your Build Around, Pm Me.
