I have a 2005 f250 4wd and the trans failed. I pulled out a retaining clip (broken) and a few other misc. parts out of the pan. i have researched this and a fleet of other ford owners have experienced this problem. some say the dealer fixed it at no cost and there are some recal #s 04B24 and 05B27. i called the dealer and they seemed suprised to hear about this problem and could not find those recal #s . whats really going on. The transmission slips in reverse and the 6.0 likes to have its cab removed so it can get a head gasket and after market stud replacement. i bet all the cummins guys are having fun with this. this truck and the ford company have serious issues. if any one has feed back or the similar problem with theit tors--t please reply.
There was a change made at the start of the 2005 model year in the reverse clutch snap ring. It was a poorly done change and many of the snap rings failed. Once that happens it slips pretty bad in reverse, and in some cases the snap ring comes out the side of the trans!
There was no recall. The numbers you listed are for Customer Satisfaction Programs. They are NOT recalls, and they have expired. Actually, 04B24 was only for 2004 trucks which had a different problem not related to the snap ring. The only trucks that were included in the 2005 program had the snow plow package. The reasoning (and we could debate all day if it was right) is that only trucks that had the back and forth of snowplowing got enough reverse engagements to fail the snap ring.
