Looks like he has a 65 f100. I thought the original style was the little round bullet shaped ones. Those are what I have on my 66.

Do you have the door mountings & the risers? You'll need them to put the mirrors on. They are pretty easy to install. Let us know what you have. If you go to my gallery, look at the album "camper" and you can see the styl mirrors I have.

Not clear with type exterior mirrors referring to. If type as judy described then installation is covered. If they are the larger type, purchased the 65 Ford 'body/interior assembly manual' which covers location and installation of 4 larger type exterior rear view mirrors. Unfortunately my scanner can not pick up the small print. The manual cost $21, plus shipping if ordered thru publisher. Book goes into much detail to include the type and location of caulking material, etc., just lot of good info.

Product Detail

This is what the cover looks like:

eBay Motors: 1965 Ford Truck Body Interior Assembly Manual (item 130225671105 end time Jun-01-08 21:28:39 PDT)

Have 2 65 F100's one with the 'original' or for lack of better term, torpedo type exterior mirrors, and the other has the type that are extended further out; must admit, hauling with the small type 'torpedo' mirror can be a hazard particularly when confronted with an idiot behind the wheel of another vehicle.

Not sure of placement, what does that mean?

If you bought the passenger car type of outside mirror with the squarish head, these are not correct till 1967.

The correct mirrors are the round headed type that fit into the door slots.

The slots are covered (as original) by a rectangular rubber plug. The mirrors that fit into these slots have been reproduced and are the same from 1953 thru 1966.

hey, sorry it's taken me a while to get back on. been real busy. but yes the truck is a 65 CC and I got the round mirrors for the 53-66. I'm guessing that's what has been referred to in this thread as the "Torpedo" mirrors due to the torpedo shape in the front. I ended up finding the screws and rubber block hidden among the packaging. I do see those tabs on the door where it looks like the mirrors should go but I'm not sure how it would mount onto them? there's a rectangular cut out in the base of the mirrors in between the screw holes that looks like the tabs would go in there, but it's on the top side and it's the wrong size, too short and too fat.

ok wait I think I've figured it out! there's the rubber piece that slips on the base of the mirror, then I'll have to somehow cut out that tab and then the mirror will slide down into the slot? right?

If referring to this type mirror, there is an extention, or bracket, that fits into the rectangular slot in the door, usually find a rubber grommet in this slot to prevent water from getting into the door panel. This bracket is secured to the door using to bolts. Then the mirror mounts to the bracket using an acorn nut, suggest using a locking type nut, saw mine bounce along the freeway from this nut backing off. The link below shows the bracket and mirror. Also, judi48's gallery has a pic of the mirror mounted on her camper.

ok. the truck is currently residing at my parents land which is about 20 miles from me so I can't go look at it right now, I'll be down there later today, but the truck was painted sometime between 65 and 79 done by the original owner. the rubber plugs were painted over and bigger western style mirrors with fish-eye trailer mirrors were put on. the original owner used it for trailering, i'm guessing like an old style fifth wheel or camper trailer. anyways so now those rubber blocks look like they're just a metal part of the door. all hard. so I'll need to destroy them to get them off. thanks for the help everyone!

You are not going to need the old grommets/plug, and yes, they are usually painted over which is what I did in painting the 65. In the LMC pic you can see there is an outside rectangular grommet that fits in the hole where the plug was, definitly want to get that gommet to prevent water from getting in. As probably already aware, there are 2 bolt holes on the upper part of door jamb and the bolts fit into threaded holes in the bracket which secures it to the door. The mirror extention then mounts to this bracket and the mirror mounts to the extention using a nylon threaded, or security type acorn nut.

This is my observation when some one repainted your truck they may have
( bondo or welded a patch ) over the hole, if it is just bondo use a soft magnet to check!
