Performance Upgrades

I have had my truck for nearly a year and am ready to do several upgrades such as exhaust and programmer. I have read some threads, but still am unsure about what to do. I am interested in the magnaflow exhaust 4" (unsure if catback or turbo back) and the SCT programmer by dp-tuner (jody). Seems that lots like the turboback without the "kitty" and others leave the "kitty" on. Just need some knowledegable help in this matter so I can get started with my upgrades. Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated. I only want to spend my money once especially with the high cost of fuel. I drag race cars and we have some open 20' trailers all steel and enclosed trailers 28'. Other than that no other towing just pure driving pleasure.

Welcome To FTE DieselmanF350

The exhaust is a nice start, add gauges to keep an eye on things, head studs and EGR cooler delete if you plan on running a hotter tune.

What type of gauges would you recommend for me to install?

The truck has a boost, volt, and tranny temp from factory so do I need to also buy some aftermarket gauges as well? Thanks for the help.

If you are planning on towing, the trans temp guage is a must, the stock one tells you it's hot when it's too late.

Isn't that how all factory gages work so you end up paying for repairs.

You are on the right track with your mods. Remember the motor is basically an air pump. Since EGTs are a concern the exhaust needs to be opened up. Any 4" exhaust kit with or without the kitty and muffler will help keep the EGTs in check. Remember the kitty and muffler will slow down the flow so removing them will help. Watching the engine with aftermarket gauges gives you more accurate info. EGT, boost and tranny temp have always been the standard three to use any others are your choice. Autometer is well known and there is a wide selection.
I will add to you mods by suggesting an aftermarket intake elbow since the new elbow is cheaper than an intake kit. An intake kit can show better gains when you are over 500HP. A tuner will bring the truck alive and help with the towing. Several companies offer great tunes, you need to contact them with your requirements so they can get your truck performing to your driving needs. A larger intercooler will help with EGTs but they are not cheap. A regulated return fuel system will keep the OEM injectors happy and loving life. Moving to a bigger turbo or injectors will just up the ante.

Start out with the basics, keep reading here and asking questions.

Thanks a million, where is a good place to get the gauges with the pods. I saw someone how had the 3 pods over the mirror and the place even painted the pod to match I believe, I really like that type setup. Thanks for all your help and expertise.

I ordered the quad pod and autometer c2 guages from xtreme, great prices compared to some others.
