Hey guys, just put the bronco on the road. It runs great but the idle seems low. It idles smoothly at 500 rpm. Isnt 7-800 better? There is a little box type thing on the right side of the steering wheel below the dash. I have no clue what it is it has a slide lever on the front and a button. I will take a pick and post it. It isnt in my book. The front end is loose should I replace all the front bushings? How are the polygrphite ones? Do they squeek? Last question, what can I do for rust prevention? This truck has but a few little rust bubbles on the front end. I live in Buffalo, new york. Salty winters. Should I have it undercoated? What can I do? Thanks guys!!
Your idle is a bit low but if it runs smooth I wouldn't worry about it. That "box type thing" is a trailer brake controler. It allows you to run a trailer with it's own brakes and then adjust how much braking the trailer does vs. your truck. It is usually for heavier trailers. For your front end you want to diagnose what is loose. Don't just go throwing parts at it. Take it to a shop to have the front end looked at. If you feel confident in looking at it yourself, have a friend, wife, whatever, get in the drivers seat and turn the truck on. Set the E-brake and then have them turn the wheel 1/2-1 turn in each direction while you watch the steering components. Then have them go from D to R a few times and look at all the axle pivot points and radius arm bushings. Lastly jack up each of your front tires, independently is fine and check your ball joints and wheel bearings. To do that you need to have the tire up in the air. Put one hand on the top of the tire at 12 and the other hand at the bottom at 6. Try to wiggle the tire. If you feel wiggle then your ball joints and/or your wheel bearings are bad. Your ball joints you can see so have your friend do what you just did while you watch the ball joints. If they are moving around, time for new ones. If they are solid but there is play in the wheel/tire, then your bearings are loose or bad. In my experience, once rust is there it can not be stopped unless you cut it out of the body. If your serious about it you could have the front clip, or whatever piece it is, sanded treated and professionally painted. If they treat it with a good rust preventer it should last for quite a while before it comes back. Good luck.
Thank you! There is no rust at all. Just some bubbles up front. I just want to treat the undercarriage so it doesnt rust. A preventative! Thanks for your help!!
