Truck transport from Buffalo NY???
Hi guys, I know this subject has come up in past threads, but my search is not giving me what I need. Several folks had past recomendations for cross- country haulers. I have an F100 I am interested in shipping from Buffalo NY to Sacramento CA. I am not pickie about the time, but price is important. Thanks, Jag

You mean there is a vehicle in Buffalo that's more than 10 years old that hasn't disolved into a pile of iron oxide?

I looked into shippers when we bought the Panel. There's a website I ran across while looking for a shipper that is a watchdog for auto transport companies issues. After reading all the horror stories I decided to fly out to NM and drive it back. Biggest problem is that they are not regulated in any way, so once they have your truck they can hold it for additional fees, decide not to deliver it, destroy it (all happens and more) or whatever and it's your tough luck. Most of the cited issues were with the biggest "name" companies. One interesting thing I found out is you can ship it FedEx! Not cheap but dependable. Most shippers sites I found said they will not accept a vehicle which cannot be loaded under it's own power, a problem for us hot rodders wanting to ship a parts vehicle. You could always rent a Uhaul and put it inside or on a trailer and haul it back yourself.

What we need on FTE is a "Relay" fourm. There are enough of use around the world that we should be able to set up a way for items to be "Picked Up" and moved across/around by various members until it reaches its destination.
An example post would read someting like:
Need 1948 Ford Panel Truck moved from Podunk PA to Awshucks AR.
or
Greasy Gears from Bugtussle TX to Why NJ for shipment Overseas.
Or
Have Open Trailer going from Here to there on 12 Never. Help with Gas?

John-
When I sold a 37 Ford project a while back I used a company named Passport Transportation out of St. Louis, MO. They haul cars coast to coast. It was an enclosed carrier with capacity for six cars. The driver was coming from Maine on his way to California. I'm in the Kansas City area and the guy who bought my car was in Billings, MT. He is a U.S. District judge and to paraphase him "don't screw with me on this deal or I can get even", caused me some concern with shipping. It turned out fine. They only required that the vechicle is moveable. We rolled it out to the street and he used a power winch to pull it on his rig. This car sold for $22K and the truck had two other cars valued at over $50K on it. The cost was about $1100 as I recall, door to door. I had to wait about a week for the scheduled pickup. It appears they are now part of Fedex so I don't know if the costs have changed. More info at passporttransport.com if you want it. Good luck. Larry

John, I shipped my 56 F-250 from Sacramento to Dallas last March and I used Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They are the guys who normally ship for Ebay. My bids ranged from $600 for some guy with his own trailer to $1800 for an air conditioned enclosed show car palace. DAS was a reasonable $750, on the lower range of bids. Brand new trucks, very professional organization. I dropped off the truck in Folsom March 27th and it was in Texas April 2nd. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Good luck,
Rob

I'm looking to move a 1949 F2 from Medford, OR to Houston. I've been caling on quotes and they are all in the $1,200.00 - $1,400.00 range to haul a truck I'm only paying $1,000 for with no engine. Body is super straight and nearly rust free. I like the idea of "Relay Forum". I have an 03 F-250 PSD and a trailer, and room for "temporary" storage. I would certainly be willing to particpate. My problem with going to get it myself is time. Looks to be around 2300 miles each way. If I could get it moved even part of the way towards Texas it would be a big help.
