Adjusting Carburator

I recently put a 351w from 85 Bronco on my 80 F100. I took off all of the emissions since I have the F100 registered as an antique. Now I need to adjust the carb. I have the electric choke hooked up and that is working. What happens is when I start and let it idle, it runs for a while then cuts out unless I step on the gas. The strange thing is if I start it up and drive it around it will run fine without having keep my foot on the gas, it just idles a little high. I have checked the linkages and I know they are ok, any ideas on what to do to adjust? I know there have been some mixed opinions on here about removing the emissions but I have seen many that have done it with success.

It only cuts out after a cold start? And after it's warmed up by driving around it will not cut out anymore? If so, you might need to adjust the choke a little bit more. Also, when the choke is operating, it's not unusual to have to kick the choke down after a few minutes.

I agree with Franklin on this one, just see if 'knocking it off idle' by kicking down the gas pedal quickly will cure the prob.

I have done that but it doesn't help.

Is the fast idle cam engaging when the choke is set? It could be the engine is running too slow when started cold so when the choke opens it leans out too much. When you start up and drive you bring it through the warmup period with "your foot on the gas".
