U-joints going bad?
What is the best way to check if my U-joints are going bad? I have a 90 F250 5.8 E4OD 2WD. There is a squeak that comes from under the center of the truck that seems to mirror my speed. I had someone suggest that my U-joints were going bad.
Does anyone know an easy way to check? Thanks.

Block the truck so it can't roll and put it in neutral with the engine off and cool. Get under there and rotate the driveshaft, jerk it around side to side and rock it looking for play.. particularly at the U-joints at the front and rear. If the joints aren't loose it's possible thay are dry and partially siezed. To verify you'll have to remove the driveshaft, remove the two small U-bolts holding the rear driveshaft U-joint in the differential yoke, push the shaft forward to remove it from the yoke and slide the shaft out of the tranny tail piece. Good u-joints will freely flop around on both axis, if yours don't replace them.
