Single Cab sound system

Hey, so im having troubles finding places to put sound equiptment in my 1973 F250 Highboy. Its a single cab, and the only place i could imagine putting a subwoofer would be in the glove box (the inside of the glove box is ripped out). Then comes amps and speaker placement. Any help??

Oh, and how difficult would it be to convert the manual steering to power? Im only 16, but i have a plethora of tools at my disposal including industrail grade welders, plasma torches, and just about anything you can imagine.

You wouldn't want to put a subwoofer in the glove box. The vibration would make annoying rattles, and it could theoreticly damage components like your instrument cluster.

Since your gas tank is behind the seat, perhaps under the seat.

The Audio forum might be able to help you out better than we could here.

Good luck.

Im just worried about clearance. I could get a pretty thin sub, but then someone sitting on the seat would get more than they expected when i turned up the system. Hmm this could actuall be a good thing, if i had the right chick sitting next to me lol.

what if you put a set of bucket seats in it and built a center console with a built in sub and space for your amps and such.

That's crazy. I'm 6'3" and have plenty of room. Either you got a tall upper body, or have some fluffy hair! Do you have the stock seats?

I thought about putting subs under the seats, but nothing will fit unless you do lift the seat up. The slimmest subs won't fit. You can't even fit an amp under there... (Maybe a small one will barely fit... but I wouldn't want to move the seat with one under there)

What you could do, which I've seen someone else here do, is cut two holes in the cab floor under the seat, and weld in some sheet metal boxes so the subs and amp are recessed into the cab floor. It is a little more involved, but may be the only solution if you want to keep the gas tank behind the seat and not do some kind of center console.

LMC sells a headliner kit with two speakers. Plus you should have enough room behind you seat for a small sub.

There is a really thin sub you can get at Best Buy, if you have the $350 it costs. And at 16, im 6'3'' so moving the seat up probably wouldnt help my situation! But yes, i could fab up a bracket in the roof and get some Linex around it.

oh and we don't really reccommend LMC on this site since they're not a sponsor. only use them as a last resort.

and nosetackle63 are you sure your truck is a 73. by the pictures in your gallery it looks like a 78-79. the grill and the badge on the side of the truck both have 78-79 written all over them.

It has the front end and badges of a 78, but the VIN code and date says 73. It is F26YRR48215. So originally it had a 360, which was replaced with a 390, and it was manufactured in California.

Where did you get the Vin number from, the frame or the door plate.

for instance, I wouldn't trust the Door plate on your truck, it could have been swapped like the front clip, or instead of the front clip, if you see where I'm leading this....
