EGT questions

Hey everyone. I have a question about my EGTs. I have an 87 6.9L. At 65mph in 5th gear. my truck runs about 2000rpms. My egts are around 800 degrees at this point. Is this high? or normal? ive never ran a pyrometer and would really like to know if what im looking at is normal. Thanks guys

800 is not too super high. However, it's a higher than mine at that speed. What mods do you have and are you running around empty? What altitude, any hills, etc...?

Where is your pyro sensor located? Do you have a turbo, and if so is the pyro before or after the turbo?

I have a 6.9L with a zf5 tranny. No turbo or anything bone stock except the exhaust is open. The pyro is located in the head of the manifold. Third cylinder back on the passenger side. The truck was about half full. I was driving on a flat road in AZ. and the temp was in the 80s. My fuel screw is turned up maybe a half a flat. and it might not even be turned up that much. What temps to you run?

At that thermocouple location 800 degrees would be cruise.

When you strat exceeding 1100 degrees, start lifting the right foot.
1150, time to drop a gear.

Mine runs 650-700 at cruise. However, my thermocouple is just before the turbo, so that probably explains the lower reading. Basically, I just asked the specific questions so Dave S could give a definitive answer sooner
