I've got my truck pulled apart to perform some mods. Since my uppipe is going into the welder to have the EGR T cut off, I was also considering having a welder redo the Y-pipe. I've heard it was quite restrictive, but actually it doesn't look that bad.
Has anyone rebuilt theirs? Was it worth it? It appears it would be only a minor improvement to the flow of gases.
Also, how did you keep the Y-pipe dimensions *exact* so it still mounts to the turbo again?
I thought and might still do it. I figured all you need to do is rig up a steel jig to hold the OEM pipe at the openings put a couple bolts in the holes, cut out the bits you want to change get a few good tacks on the new bits ,take it off the jig and weld the pipe. The flex hose would catch any slack if you didn't get sloppy with the jig in the first place.Be sure to post pics if you go through with it.
