I just don't beleive its a switch, do to the fact you can hear the relay contacts closing/energizing. I'd be taking a look at the fuse for the motor and the motor/connection itself.
and it's much cheaper than going to the stealer-ship lol,
any who...
my rig is a 99 f350 7.5 c/c dually
the switches never did light up, but I don't know if they're supposed to.
i'll play with it today, try to figure out the relays by switching and see what happens again. I'll also pull the panel apart and move a couple of switches to see what happens.
the window switch feels very secure, not like it would if it was a broken rocker, took the switch panel apart. there was no moisture, no burnt plastic, no oil, grease or foreign matter within the switches I did notice that there are tiny little led lights, didn't know that because they never worked. oh well, I did check the fuse for the little lights, it's still good.
I switched relays 3-4-5 around, after labeling them so they go back in the correct order. nothing. window still barely works. which means that it's getting power. I checked all the fuses in the box under the dash as well, just in case there is a fuse that goes along with the relays, all are good.
I don't think it would be any of the fuses or relays under the hood, do you?
the window works very slowly, it at all. I'm wondering if the motor is on it's way out, if it might still be the relay or if there's a regulator? the motor and regulator I don't know how to check. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
check and see if maybe its the track out of wack, I sprayed mine with some lithium grease and they are much smoother now, just a thought since the window "works"
thanks, actually I took all the doors last month cleaned all the tracks and lubed them up. all the windows were working fine up untill yesterday.
my brother seems to think the motor/regulator is on it's way out.
I called the stealership, they want $144 for both units. local parts stores cannot get the regulator it's dealer only.
oh well,
John M T
It sounds like you narrowed it down to that John. If the switches are good and swapping the relays did'nt do anything then I'd say that you found the problem. If you want to make sure test the wires going to the motor before ordering the new one.
I am having the same problem with mine. I replaced the motor back in June, and as long as I keep it lubed up,it works fine for a few weeks. Now it has stopped working . Sometimes the relays click, and other times they don't. Would this be the main switch? Also,is there a way to replace the felt in the window track,so I don't have to keep them sprayed with lube?
Same problem here. Changed the motor first because thats usually what it is and there is no reason to doubt it. Well, it still does the same, clicks sometimes, and sometimes will move a bit but never regularly.
Regulator? That stinks, I just bought the motor without regulator, thats the only thing left for me to try. Edit- got to thinking about it I dont see why it would be the regulator, all it is is the gear and the arm that makes it go up and down. If that was bad it wouldnt be hit or miss like this. Just a bit of information, I was playing around with mine, not sure what I did but I went halfway down with it and back up all the way and it worked normal, but that was it, wouldnt move after it went back up. Now its stuck 1/4 way down and will not move. And the motor does not seem to be trying to move it up or down, should be able to hear/feel the motor trying to work it.
I had a stint with mine (drivers side) a month ago on a 2 day rain. Had the window cracked on the way home and went to roll it up and it started then stopped. Finally after playing with it it went up. Took the door skin off and checked everything out and checked the switches (disconnected and reconnected the switches) and everything works. I,m assuming one got loose or moisture got in there, who knows. I still get parinoid rolling down my window and not getting it back up. I think its my door switch.
Mine failed about a month ago while driving down the road, got home from getting firewood and door the switch apart, I mean every part of it. Found that it had worn the contacts deep inside the switch for the drivers window, obviously it gets used more, cleaned re-lubed and installed got it working again but it was slow like you describe. Ordered a new switch from Millenium Ford for $76, (cheapest I could find and they always take care of me) put it in and back to good as new.
