My 4.10 gears are too low for me to run and save gas.So I have been thinking about one of 2 things a 4x4 frame with 3.55 gears so I don't think there will be that big of a gas savings,so I'm thinking about a 10.25 Sterling with 3.55 gears also.
it is a bolt in swap, did mine about 8 years ago with no problems. the only hiccup is you need a odd ball u joint. I believe the napa part number is a 448. other than that i have had no problems from mine.
hi guys.
sorry to bring back such an old thread.hope ya guys dont mind.
this is just what i was searching for.
could anyone be so kind to verify/confirm the info in post #3 above me on the direct bolt in and the napa part # 448 please?
iv got a 92+ axle (i know the speedo is electronic in 92 up,so that wont work) sterling 10.25 f350 PICKUP (not cc) SRW axle that a friend just called me about.
wanted to know if it would work in his '78 f350.
id love to be able to call him back and let him know just what would be required.
thanx a mill guys! (especially you, c.l.nye.)
should bolt right in. I dont remember any more on the u-joint than I went to napa and told them what I was doing and they looked up the size for both trucks and found a correct u joint by size. The parking brake cables may or may not work depending on set up on your two trucks.
You will want to measure the spring pearches to make sure they are both the same width. Also the drive shaft length may be off a little for length.again measure from axle center line to u joint yoke flange on both axles.
The axle I used was from a 92-96 f350 srw truck.
