Flame throwers?

I am really thinking about getting a flame thrower kit. I figured one of you guys on here would have had some experience with a kit or have thought about it your self. Any input on a kit is appreciated thanks again guys

I think Autoloc makes a nice kit, if I were to buy one it would most likely be theirs. I think with these kits, you have a plumb in a line for whatever fuel they use and add a spark plug. Perhaps though if they use a really high grade kerosene you may have enough heat at the tail pipe to auto ignite. I wouldn't expect that to be the case.

There was a thread here a while back were a guy was having trouble with the spacing between the fuel line and the igniter.

Thanks for the name of those guys, I am thinking that I might get the smoke kit. I am a rookie as far as it comes to accessory's to my truck and the smoke kit is still cool and looks allot easier to set up.

I dont know how true it was but i remember my dad telling me that when he was young, about the time dinosaurs were dying off.they used to run a wire from the coil or ?to a spark plug tapped into the tailpipe and the sparkplug ignited the unburned fuel in the exhaust.I know this doesnt answer your question but since it related i thought one of you old timers out there could let me know if thats a real deal or if pops was just tell another whopper thanks

With the EGR systems on todays vehicles the OLD SCHOOL method will not work. Yes it did when me and your dad was fighting off the dinosaurs. But, my questions is why would you want this system on your truck??? In our dads you would see many vehicles with burn marks on the rear portion of the vehicle. Nice truck with burn marks = JUNK. Just my opinion.

The flame throwers in the old days used a combination of manual choke, extra coil, and a spark plug in the tail pipe. The choke was used to richen up the exhaust then you flip a switch to power up the coil and spark plug to light the unburned fuel in the exhaust. The emisions systems on newer trucks will not allow this setup so you would have to rig a fuel delivery system to the tail pipe. Keep in mind that the cops don't usually have much of a sense of humor for flames out the tail pipe.

But like Syco showed, flames do look nice with stacks ... Just be careful because with stacks you will probably put the igniter a ways down the pipe instead of near the tips like we did in the Model "A" days ...

Why don't you try and find a 6.4 diesel with a recall still on it?

this is pretty old, but did you actually do the kit yet? im planning on making one myself right now. running a coil and plug towards the end of hte tail pipe (bout 6 inches) and plumming a metal gas line into my exhaust about 1-2 feet back from the plug. then im taking a lawn mower gas tank and running a fuel pump from my derby car to pump the gas into the exhaust. all hooked up to toggles in the cab. its gonna be my next shop class project. hehe

Talking

My grandpa used to just hook up a spark plug into his exhaust pipe when he was a teenager. He would press a button and the exhaust would light up like the 4th of July.

That used to be the way, but it only works well on carb'd motors and better with a manual transmission. Turn the key off while your moving, pump the pedal, touch your coil off and then turn the key on and pop the clutch. The reason was to fill the cylinders with gas and get it out to the tail pipe.
