Both the 5.4l and the 6.8l in the SD and Excursions use identical exhaust systems and that includes the y-pipe. The stock y-pipe is necked down on both. There are gains to be had with either engine by replacing the y-pipe section.
Not for that year they don't. A 2001 F250 should have three converter assemblies. The F350 would have the y-pipe as you describe, since the larger F-350 gets some weight exemptions. An F-250 should have these converters, plus a large torpedo style behind it.
I am looking at all options on an F-250 4WD regardless of weight. I'm showing that all versions have the y-pipe I showed in addition to the larger rear converter for a total of 5 converters. However, When I looked at the 2WD (my catalog seperates the two options) then you are correct, there is only one large converter, in which case it would take the same y-pipe as the V10.
I have a 2003 F350 xl 4x4 with a 5.4 and it has that huge converter on it, so I guess maybe Ford made different versions. Would that Y-pipe mess with the sensors?

Nope, I guess if you just make sure that it looks that same before you buy it.

There should be only two O2 sensors on your truck, one on each ide of the y-pipe right behind where the y-pipe bolts up to the manifolds.
The Ebay and Stans replacement y-pipe only replaces the restricted portion of the y-pipe. The O2 sensors are left untouched.
OK.. So... got it on. Sounds nice. Not too loud, but enough low mumble that makes it sound great. The old system was harder to take off than the new one was to put in.
BTW.. I got the single side exit setup. I really like the dual rear, but I did not want to have to mess with the spare and anything else. This setup is nice.
Now, about this Y pipe thingy......what will it do to the truck? Is it street legal (will it fail me on inspection here in NY?) is it worth the effort and cost? I don't horse the crap out of the throttle that much, no drag racing with the truck, so would I really need it or would it be just for S&G's?
Also: Who else has run this setup on the 5.4 and what differences did you get in mileage or HP? Anything else?
The Y-pipe will provide mainly more low end power. The pipe will not have an effect on emmissions. There are several guys using the Ebay y-pipe on their trucks and it passes california emmisions and inspections. If it passes in CA it will pass in NY. You may pick up a tad more mpgs with the new y-pipe. Just look at the y-pipe on your truck going from 2.5" to 1.5" thhen back to 2.5" is a huge restriction point. The y-pipe was designed that way to elimate exhaust "Flutter" noise generated by the V10 engine. The V10 only generates the flutter due to the firing order, the 5.4l has no flutter issues. Ford uses the y-pipe on both the 5.4l and 6.8l SDs to save $$$ they wern't going to make one for each engine.
