I was going to have my oil tested before my next oil change. I usualy change my oil at the 3000 mark without exception. After paying over $100 for a oil change that I did myself I am starting to think. I am not an oil expert and would like to have my oil tested and a print out that I can understand, one that tells me what I should do, run the oil longer,(how much longer) or change the oil. Does anyone have their oil tested, how much does it cost, do they like the total process. When I was in the Marines and on I&I duty we did all jobs on the base, although I was a radar/comm tech I also worked on the veh. Gunny got the oil tested but I did not get that much into it, I do remember the had alot of containers that looked like urin test conatiners that he used to send out the oil. Thank you for your time and attention. Again this site is great.
Go to Blackstones Labs in the sponsor links above. The one's here, inclulding myself, use them. 25 to 35 dollars depending on what you have done. I am doing about 7500 on syn oil and the lab says it good and could do a bit more. Next test will tell more.
I use Schaeffer's 9000 5w40 and their lab. I am 10000 mile intervals. Their lab said I could do more, but just choose not to. Oil analysis is free is you buy a certain amount. I think around $9.00 other wise.
Roger that, I will check with both of them. I know that 3000 miles are not much since it does not pull much. I am going to go with a bypass filter on my oil and my coolant, she is at 156,000 I just hope it is not too late. I have had no problems as of yet, I keep the fluids changed and dont abuse it at all. Has to last 500,000 or untill my 13 year old daughter is out of college. Then maybe a new on, then we will see. Thanks again.
3000 miles just made me feel good, like a wash and a wax, but here lately a wash and a wax is alot cheaper, and I agree, I should wait at least till 5000, I think that a oil test will help me with my 3000 mile problem. ha ha.
you'll be safe at 5k, I put 7-8k miles a year on mine so for me its 1 oil change a year, every june. Makes it easy for me to remember I use synthetic so 8k miles is no big deal and my last blackstone test showed I could go 7500mi (that was on delo 400) I have since then changed to synthetic and figure I'm ok. I will probably send in a sample this june and see how it looks since it will be my 2nd oil change at 8k mi.
I am going to get a oil bypass, first I am going to take a sample send it off, then put the bypass on run it for a week or so and send in another sample and see what happens. Oil is just getting expensive, I guess there is alot of dino in syth? I think that FS2500 has a bypas, do not have much info on it though, any others as good or better. Thanks again.
I have been running Shell Rotella 5W-40 synthetic and Ford Motorcraft filter with a 6-7500 K change interval and getting my oil analyzed by Blackstone.
So far, so good
I have 125K on an '01 and go 5K with Mobil 1. Thats with some tow/haul in the summers. 5K oil change would still be on the early side from what I have read around here.
I use Schaeffer's oil analysis also for $9 - their test shows more info/feedback. I installed the oilguard bypass filter about 3 years ago and have been very happy with the results.
