about 2 weeks ago I posted a thread. I asked if y'all thought I would pass my inspection since I didn't have a catalytic converter. well on Friday I went and got my truck inspected. the lady went out there wrote down the VIN, mileage, and gave me a compliment about the truck and said, "OK you're done now since your truck is 20 years and older so I don't have to check blinkers and stuff, let me go get your sticker." I was amazed. I guess 'cause everytime I go get an inspection it's in a newer vehicle.
also when she wrote down the VIN I guess she wrote it down wrong. the paper she gave me said, "302 5.0L." my truck has a 300 4.9L. so the question is could one wrong letter mean a different engine code? when I decoded the VIN with an LMC catalog it shows that there is supposed to be a 300 in there.
Thats all they do in KS too just run the VIN to make sure it isn't stolen, I passed one with car that didn't even run. You might want to get that cleared up if the VIN on the title is different than the one on the truck that could be a real headache later on.

I think the VIN is fine. on the cab where the door connects is where she wrote down the VIN from. on the tag there is a scratch on it so I think she just guessed what the first letter or two is. on the back of the door the VIN is fine.
I don't know exactally how they do it there but I would guess your title will come back with what ever VIN is on the form and it will not be the same VIN as on the truck, because you don't send the truck to the titling office you send the form. And that means you own a truck that most likely doesn't exist being it has your sequence number but a different engine. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but some times those people at the titling office can be real A-HOLES, I have dealt with them plenty and it has never been easy. May not matter at all if you get some one that is in a good mood, most likely it won't be a problem until you sell it but then it could be hell getting things fixed.

oh and the 120 HP, how did you figure that out? I searc Yahoo one time for Ford 300 Inline 6, clicked on Wikepedia, and it said 79 had 114 HP. just wondering.
I should have told you this, I dunno why I didn't. Ford-Trucks has its own VIN Decoder, hover over Articles/Specs and its the last option. It could be wrong on either or you can not be too sure I guess. I am sure one of the other guys on the forum know what it would be stock from the factory when it comes to horse power.
I am used to doing everything with LMC. since they aren't a sponsor I have to kinda move any from them. otherwise I would have used the VIN decoder on this site to start with.

You dont have to move away from them, a lot of us have found good and bad parts from them. I personally look at them along with all the others but I rather support a sponsor personally because to me I have gained a LOT of knowledge about my truck and I know it is what keeps this site running so if what I spend at a sponsor helps pay for something that gives me a priceless gift of knowledge I am willing to do it. Over LMC who doesnt benefit my learning. ahah kinda cheesy way to look at it but its how I do it.
