I'm trying to troubleshoot a no start condition on my 92' F150 (e4od,302). I remote started it on one of the last cold winter mournings, she started for about 30 seconds and sputtered then died. I was using the 'efi no start guide' on sbftech. I have fuel pressure, pump primes. She just cranks, doesn't even sputter when I carb cleaner into the intake. Injectors are pulsing. The truck already has a new fuel filter & sparkplugs w/ 8.8m wires. I tried swapping a known good coil. Following the guide, it said that 'at this point, it's either the TFI module or stator sensor.' So, I got my hands on an ACCEL billet distributor & TFI module with no luck. Still won't start. I've checked & rechecked timing so I'm sure I'm good there. I'm wondering if there is something internal on the motor that went wrong. I'm going to pickup a compression tester tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I might've missed. Thank you.
Sorry if my first post was a little incoherent, this is getting frustrating. I checked injector pulses by connecting testlight to injector plug & cranking engine. I loosened the dizzy hold down & pulled the plug wire from the coil tower, with ignition on I could get the spark to jump from coil tower to plug wire holding it at a 1/4" gap or so by turning the dizzy back & forth. For the coil harness, I have 12V on the + side and 12V pulses on the negative side. I disconnected the remote starters lead to the coil but haven't disconnected the whole thing, I'll have to give that a try tomorrow. thanks for the reply
Pull a plug and with your thumb over the hole have someone turn the engine over. You should feel the compression blow your thumb off the hole.
Using the spark plug you pulled, connect it to the wire and touch the electrode end to the block and have someone turn the engine over. You should see a spark (so don't be holding the plug ) also you should be able to smell some gas from that cylinder thats un-plugged
If you have compression, spark & fuel and its still not firing you need to check for timing and a (really) plugged exhaust
