my truck (84 F250 5.8w 2bl) is idling all ****ty and erratic, so i am trying to replace the pcv and go from there. book tells me the pcv is in the oil cap, but my oil cap just has a tube strait to the air filter - no valve, also there is a plastic elbow that won't come out, but will turn.
confused in ventura
PCV valve is connected to the valve cover opposite to the one with the oil cap. About a 1/2" to 5/8" hose from the PCV valve to the base of the carburetor.
thanks piffery, found and replaced it. also replaced thermostat. still idling rough, was a little low on antifreeze, how can i tell if i am having a carb problem or perhaps a head gasket? i ran the truck until my neighbor cried asphyxiation, seems like i have more steam and water than usual, but not a whole lot maybe i'm imagining it. no water in oil.
Blown power valve usually makes the mixture very rich resulting in rough idle, poor fuel mileage and black exhaust pipe. If it's not running very rich then I'd look for vacuum leaks first.
replace all those vac lines, have you changed the small filter in the carb there only good for like 7k miles, check float needle seat o ring I've seen them deteriorate and not let the float function properly but if ya do that ya might as well rebuild the whole thing check those fuel filters first
