I would like to do a 4" exhaust from the turbo back and eliminate the muffler with a straight thru muffler. I am concerned about the noise getting to me after awhile since it is a daily driver. I like a good throaty sound, but what is the noise like in the cab? The truck is an 02 F250 crew w/7.3 diesel
Banks Monster exhaust is quiet (compared to other 4" systems) and it features a flow thru muffler. Really throaty too. Of course it is going to be slightly louder, but nothing to write home to mom about. Just my $.02
Long bed or shorty? Regular, Super, or Crew Cab? the further you are away from the exit point, the better. Also, the less you have the passenger side windows down, that will cut down on it too (assuming you don't go with duals).
I have a flow-through muffler on my CC SB and with the windows up (and radio going) I really don't even notice it. More engine growl than exhaust noise by far, for my setup.
I have MBRP 4" SS on my truck with the muffler. The muffler is like a straight pipe. I think it sounds good but not very loud. I like it with the muffler on.
I have a CC LB with straight pipe and I can barely hear it in the cab at all, unless I am pulling a load up hill. Then it sounds nice. It is pretty loud if the passenger windows are down though.
I have the Banks exhaust and removed the muffler for a month. I loved the turbo sound but the cruising noise was too much. WOT was pretty loud and attracted too much attention for a slow truck. Maybe if I had a 12 second truck it would be ok. Needless to say, I put the muffler back on and will keep it this way.
You can get the MKO exhaust on ebay for cheaper than that. It is $300.00 with free shipping. That's what I have and it went on nicely. The sound is not that loud and plus they are a sponsor.
Just got my 4" turbo back with the hi-flow muffler (which by the size of it can't do much for muffling) and the noise is not much louder than stock. It only get's loud when I roll down the window and stomp on it!
Do the 6637 filter and the foil delete (cheap mods) and you will really hear the turbo.
I got the mbrp cool duals with the muffler and it sounds good at idle but when you get on it, you know it. Its all a matter of preferance, single or dual, they all work the same. What i would do is go on some of these sponsors web-sites and they got sound bites that you can click on to get an idea. Take into consideration that it,s recorded (sound bites) and it,s just to give you an idea. Good luck.
I have a 5" mbrp exhaust on my extended cab short bed...it has a muffler and i really don't notice that much of a difference inside with the windows up...i do enjoy moshing the pedal with the windows down every once in a while to put a little smile on my face...i thought the noise would be too much with the size i got...however im considering putting a straight pipe in after i go through inspection and get a little extra cash!
