I went, to get estimates on Aftermarket Security and remote start on my 05 f150, just the low end get the job done, and I got quotes of 512.80 and 700.. Anyone else find that INSANE? Or have I really been out a while?

What alarms were you looking at? $500 for a 2 way remote start/alarm with installation is not too bad. $700 is a bit steep, but if you are getting a more expensive alarm it might not be all that unreasonable.

I have the Autopage RS1000 and I am very happy with it. The Viper 5900 and Python 990 get pretty good reviews around here too.

Like just about anything else, you're mostly paying for labor. The newer the vehicle the more involved and complex the wiring can be. However, that does sound high, I think a dealer installed one will be about that price.

I good alarm will cost around $200-$250 the rest will be labor. A nice alarm will be around 500-550 out the door.

You can get a cheaper one but chances are it will go out before you get your monies worth out of it.
