Hackin fenders

I just bought a 78 f-250 with a 460 c-6 and dana 60's front and rear. I believe it has a 4 in lift on it. No bed, cab and fenders rusted way beyond repair(I live in michigan). I also have aqquried a set of 44inx18.5gumbo monster mudders for next to nothing. Now what i was wondering is in your expericened opionion should i a. buy a larger lift kit and try to clear the tires. Or b. Just get out the sawzall and let her eat on the front fenders. One more quick question 44's on the stock dana 60s will they hold up or should i upgrade shafts and u-joints. THis truck will be a muddboggin beast no pavement,
Thanks Rich

It depends if theres a lift on it.
Personally I would just build well braced drop hangers for the front springs and longer shackel for the front.
Shakel flip the rear been explained here numerous times.
Then hack the crap out of the fenders or just take them off.
Post some pics up!!!!

Let the hackin' begin.

Ive got 38.5s on a 79 F250 with a 4" lift and very minimal cutting. They clear fine and no rubs even under compression. In the near future Im jumping up to 40s and dont expect any trouble. Denman is well known for having mis-sized tires. I hate to burst your bubble but your 44s are probably closer to 40s once installed. Since the body is shot anyway just remove whats necessary to clear the tires so they dont rub when you flex some. Its also a good idea to fold under the lip of the cut to prevent the fender from cutting the tire (happens easier than you think)

All you need is:

Cut away. It's a good idea to cut the rust out anyway, so just keep on going till the tires clear.

D60s should be fine if it has a D60 front, if anything, I'd be worried about the rear if anything.

It's a great idea to roll the edge of the fender after cutting them like Kris said.

X2 with what Matt said.

Id lean toward 5.13s unless youre pushing serious power.

Mine's a 79 F250 with a 400 4spd, 60s front and rear with 44" swampers/boggers. I run 4.88 gears, welded front, posi rear. Probably about 8" homemade lift and 4" body lift. I still have cuts on the front tires and they definately rub the cab mounts when twisted up/turning. It will light the tires pretty good in 4lo/2nd gear. No worries on my 60 front unless I drop the clutch too hard (3000rpm while planted) and the rear I think will be fine. I tried to keep mine low and cut too but you can only do so much... See gallery

Im so glad someone asked this question since I want to hack away at the typical ford fender rust before it gets too bad. My question is about rolling the fenders after they have been cut? best to make relief cuts and bend them up or is there an easier way of doing it. Also will a spray on bed liner help preven it from rusting again? After I cut I was planning on putting some fender flares on just to cover any oops the saw wiggled lol thanks
