Yeah Id make relief cuts every inch or so then bend them up with vice grips.
bedliner would work real good on the back side of the fender but Id suggest some rustoleum rattle can on the front side. Bedliner fades real bad and clay or mud with a high level of iron stains it. It can also be a real pain to wash the mud out of but I rarely wash my truck.
I am also glad someone asked this as well... Cuz im about to do some trimmin too... Then im off to break my uber awesome TTB!!!! sweetness... One question though... When it goes boom will i be able to limp home or will it have to go home on a trailer?
Im so glad someone asked this question since I want to hack away at the typical ford fender rust before it gets too bad. My question is about rolling the fenders after they have been cut? best to make relief cuts and bend them up or is there an easier way of doing it. Also will a spray on bed liner help preven it from rusting again? After I cut I was planning on putting some fender flares on just to cover any oops the saw wiggled lol thanks
If you look in my gallery you can see how I did mine, I kind of have a complete description in there, but I didn't cut relief cuts, which makes it match the original body lines better. Just My .02
I put 38's on a 79 with maybe 3-4" of lift. I used the stock front springs and built custom drop hangers. I had to move my axle forward about 2" to clear the front cab mounts. I suspect you'll have to do the same. After going to all that work, someone mentioned getting some rear f150 springs. If you look at them, they'd work great. So I'd give that a go if you need to move them forward.. the pins are not centered like the stock front springs so you can move the axle forward several inches.
I'd be worried about the front and rear axle with 44s. The rear dana 60 will have 1.31" axle shafts, and the front 60 will have 1.5" that neck down to 1.31". Well.. if you don't weld or lock them they'd probly be fine but otherwise you'll want 1.5" front and rear which means 14 bolt or d70 out back and new shafts in the front.
PS, I have a d70 rear and a low pinion front. The rear has been fine but since I welded my front I'm on my 3rd inner short shaft. They are 1.31 and neck down to 1.1". So on 38s I'm blowing 1.1" pretty easily.. 1.31" on 44s will be similar I think. I keep running it cause I had lots of spares for free but now I'm out and I'm not sure what to do . If I were you I'd order the front shafts and just run it till it breaks then put the new ones in.
