Whats up guys. So i'm getting a 6" lift on some 37's. I know i'm gonna have to re-gear my truck so my MPG aint horrible. So can anybody give me some of their oppinions to what gears i should go with?? i have the stock 3.55:1 Limited slip. Let me know you guys.
The best note I have found on traveling references motor RPM for the 5.4 The cruise RPM should not be higher than 2500rpm. Factor your driving and it should tell you the shortest gear in the range. I have 4.56's and 33 muds / 32 streets. Will move to 35s as the gearing is a little short for me. Tows very well though.
I concur with handshaker.
4.56 if youre going to drive mostly highway and maybe 4.88 if you drive mostly in the city
Agreed. I was looking at the 4.56's for my 33's. But with gas prices they way they are, I've forgotten about the gears and am going to go down to stock or 31" tires.
Not sure on the best place to price gears...type in "Ring and Pinion" in a Google search and you'll find a bunch. Remember, if you have the 5.4L, you will have the 9.75" rear axle. If you have the 4.2L or 4.6L, then you'll have the 8.8.
Your front diff. is a 8.8, but it uses reverse-cut gears.
Be sure to get a master installation kit for both axles as well...comes with new bearings, shims, crush sleeve, and everything else needed...
