removing headers...broken bolts....help!!!
It you end up pulling the heads, just drill and tap them yourself.
Lube again, try to gradually loosen them, do not yank on them. Air impact on low setting to try to vibrate loose. All this done on a cold block.
If thay are already broke, get the tire outa the way, fold back metal inner fender liner. Start out with a sharp tip punch right in middle of bolt. Then use VERY sharp small drill bit to get a pilot hole started.
Keep using a bigger bits, till you are at the point where you can tap new threads. I welded my tap in to a 3/8-3/8 dv socket so I can use a long extention and make sure you start it straight.
If you can not get the size you need step up one size and use "Helicoils" or "perma-coils" thay are a threaded insert you put in the hole. I have used them many times with no problems.
Make sure you upgrade to grade 8 bolts, use anti-seaze compound and use a torque wrench, 24 ft lbs by my books. Drive a few miles and retorque and then drive again and retorque again. It will save your gaskets in the long run.
Do not try the ol "easy out", I broke one off in the hole and had a heck of a time getting it out. Do not use too small of a bit for your first hole, I broke one off in the middle of the bolt. Had to drill 3 holes around it to get it out....
Enjoy......

1. Use heat and coll quickly. Heat the bolt with propane till it glows, cool with a wet rag. Repeat for at least 3 cycles. Then try to remove it.
2. If you have to resort to drilling, try using reverse roatation drill bits, starting with a small bit first. Sometimes this will reotate the broken bolt. Forget the easy outs. I've never had one work, and they also cause more trouble than they are worth.
