I have this thud that sound like a vent door slamming open or closed when the A/C is on. It does not matter whether i have it in Auto mode or I am manually controlling the A/C. The thud seems to be the most obvious when I turn a corner and accelerate heavier than usual, although it will do it under normal driving. I never hear it happen when the A/C is off.
Anyone else notice this? I think it might be normal but i just want to make sure.
The only time I get the thud is when I first start my truck. It is the blend door thumping, but i don't have it at other times. You might have something funky with your vacuum.
Your Edge wouldn't show any codes anyways. It only monitors the PT codes and the climate control is a separate system. As Steve states, the blend door is operated by vacuum, so that's why we get the thump at start. I'm not sure why you're seeing it in other conditions. Just wondering, could it be your ac clutch cycling on and off? The ac does cut out under WOT accels.
Where is the AC clutch located? What does it sound like? It that the same as the compressor turning on and off maybe?
The more and more I think about it, it might be WOT situations, what is considered WOT? I would say this happens most of the time above 3500 RPMs. Like I said it does it when I turn a corner and get on it. Not too sure if turning the corner has anything to do with it though.
I think it may be the compressor, never had a car that I could not feel/hear the compressor to some degree. My 1971 442 has the orig ac and it's not any louder than my Infinity or my 08 Lariat.
Just to let you guys know I bought the official ford workshop manuals for my 07 5.4l F-150 and all the A/C doors are actually controlled electronically, not using vacuum anymore.
i beleive a few f150's had a problerm with the blend door stick or not closing properly, you should not hear a thud for the a/c clutch at all, at idle you can hear when it engauges and releases, but no thud. i am going to be changing a friends blend door assembly in the next week or so because it sticks every once in awhile
I had to have the blend door gasket replaced on my 08 S-Cab @ 4500 miles. The door was sticking open and the truck would not cool down properly.
It is a big job!!! They have to remove glove box and part of the dash, drain the a\c charge and coolant to get at air box.
If you are still under the 1 year warranty or extended warranty, take it in to dealer !!
Otherwise it could cost big $$$ .
