I have what I have been told is a 57 F350. I was also told that it has a 292 but after talking to some people they tell me that is most likely a 272. Here are a few features, if anyone can help me determine the engine. It's distributer is angled toward the pasenger side in the rear. The exhuast goes from the left, around in front of the engine, to the passenger side manifold and then below the truck. Thanks for the help. Ben
You have described an engine in the Y-block engine family which includes, among others, the 272 and 292. The only sure way to find out which you have is to get the casting number off the block. It will be near the oil filter, usually above it. You might have to get a brush and clean a little to find it. If you get the number, post it here and I or someone else will look it up for you.
There should be an engine code on the VIN plate, too- and we could speculate about what SHOULD be in there, but a lot of things get changed in 44 years. The most sure way to find out is to get the casting number.
