Rudy, My '59 shop manual shows the 292 initial timing to be set as follows: First, disconnect distributor vacuum line. Then set timing at 4 degrees B.T.D.C., with the engine idling below 550 rpm.

292 timing
On an old engine it is usually recommended to set the timing where it runs best. I would start at 6 deg BTDC and than experiment by advancing two degrees at a time until it starts to ping and than back off accordingly. Too many variables to determine a hard number (gas octane, compression, valve timing retarded by worn chain/gears, etc.).
