My parents have a Saturn SL2 the hood seems to not want to open, like the thing is broke where it connects under the hood...We need to get it open to check the oil and do some Preventive maintenance to it. You can pull the hood latch under the dash and it dont do crap under the hood. What way can we get this sucker open its making us MAD!!!
If it's like most other GM cars, you should be able to reach up from behind the front bumper and manually operate the latch, unless they put some theft prevention thing on it.
Also, very common on GM cars, the handle will break off the wire for the hood release, but you can still grab the end of the wire with a pair of pliers.
Hood release problems are pretty common on GM care, it just happens to be a two man job to open the hood on my Buick, and a friends Pontiac.
I prefer the "yank and bang" method myself. Basically you have a friend pull on the release cable while you bang on the front/center portion of the hood with your closed fist. Normally a couple good thuds does the trick for me, just don't bang on it hard enough to leave a dent.
I've replaced the cables, springs, handle, and latch on mine with no luck. I've greased the hell out of it with no luck. Just another little joy involved in owning a GM.
when you pull the hood latch it dont do anything. I got help and I stuck my ear to the hood to see if I could hear anything and I couldn't. I checked and made sure the cable was attached behind the hood latch under the dash
Have someone pull the hood release while you push down on hood. It may take a few harder pushes to release. When/if it does release, make sure to lube the latch with a good quality spray lube.
