I am trying to swap a shifter on my 96 F150, I found another stock shifter to replace mine that is in better shape, it is out of a Bronco. I am having trouble figureing out how to get the Threaded bolt out, so i can put the new one on and put the threaded bolt back through. Anyone ever swaped one out before?
Well the reason i ask is i already tried to beat it out from the other side and it came a little bit but not alot. Thats why i was wondering. I was told you just hit it out.
Sorry for beating a dead horse but all I gotta to do is put the nut on the opposite side and tighten it down to remove my shifter? Even if its a little bit tight? I have a 96 f150 Eddie Bauer Manual. If thats true I'm going to kick myself because that means I could have been done by now.
Yes take the nut off and put it on the right side, atleast thats how mine was, also what engine is in your truck. My truck is a 96 f150 eddie bauer 4.9l 2wd, 2 tone paint green, with tan on bottom.
I have the same truck as you (except burgundy red instead of the green). When you say right side you mean passenger side? Because thats were I found it to begin with.

If i remeber correctly mine was on the left side, but its the opposite side of the side its on. Just switch the nut sides and start tightening and you should see the bolt moving itself out. I ended up not taking my whole shifter off and just replaced the **** with a stock one which is what i set out to do. not sure what your trying to do but if you are just replacing it for the **** you can knock the **** off of the shifter you bought and then use a rubber mallet to knock it on the shifter in your truck.
