I'm looking at a little Honda to save on gas. Guy has one for sale for $400. It's an 88 Accord. Pretty old, but has low miles, and no rust.
He says it ran fine till he saw sparks coming out of the distributor. Left it parked for about a year after that.
For now I'm going to boost it and see if the motor turns over ok and there's no major engine damage from a broken timing belt or something.
I checked out Honda distributors they're expensive. I'd like some info on how they work. If there's sparks flying out of it couldn't it just be something little like a loose wire?
Anything from bad ignition wires to grenaded internals. Auto or stick? You have to pull the motor mount to change the timing belt. While you have it apart, do the waterpump. (so I was told)
How they work: this is electronic ignition, otherwise it works the same as any other.
I had a new '86 Accord, it was the best, most reliable car I have owned (of many). It ran perfectly for 12 years befor needing a fuel pump and was running fine when I traded it a year later. I hear parts are high, but the fuel pump (around $300 installed) was all I ever needed.
