Trim Package Questions

Hi again all,

I had noticed that my new project pickup (77 F-150) is missing his pair of what I call "Trim Badges" that is the chrome F-150 device that sits along the the fender body panel just forward of the doors.

Now, the interior isn't in the best of shape, so it doesn't really matter to me what trim package it had at the time of manufacture, but I was curious about what the package names were (I do know one was called Ranger) and what typically went into each. Does anyone know where I can go for more info or perhaps someone has the time to share?

My overall goal is to use my pickup as a hunting rig, but I still would like to make her look good and do a good job in restoration, and being a bit picky of the details I'd like to get the right badges, where should I look (other than junkyards, obviously)?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

I also would like to know more info about the trim packages that came on the trucks.. i just bought a 79 f150 4x4 and the actual trim that is on the body isn't the normal black stripe in the middle with chrome on the outside.. it is a narrow chrome only trim. i haven't seen this before and was wondering if this is some sort of package that was on the truck? i would like a build sheet actually to see, but not that big of a deal.
thanks!

The narrower trim was found on customs, and certain Rangers.

The Ranger XLTs came with the wider chrome with rubber strip.

The trim lines were as follows...

1973-1979:

CUSTOM: a have it your way truck, could be special ordered with every option, or no options at all.

RANGER: One step up from custom,

RANGER XLT: One step up from Ranger. best you could get for 1973-1978 models

EXPLORER: Special limited edition package. Limited to only a few months a year. And very year specific. So limited it didn't get featured in the truck brochure, and instead got its own seperate brochures. Explorer packages can be added to Custom or Ranger.

1979:

RANGER LARIAT: the best you could get in 1979.

I will post info from a brochure later...

so the lowest trim was possibly the Custom if you ordered it with nothing on it? 'cause my truck when I got it, it didn't have a "Trim Badge" on it either.

I did a quick search on the forum and came up with far too much information to repost. I since left the page but the info is plentiful.

The Lariat trim was available in MY 1978, not '79. Before MY '78, the Lariat was available as a XLT Luxury package on '76 & '77 trucks. The package is slightly different, luxurious nonetheless.

'Narrow bright trim' was standard on Ranger; optional on Custom. Wide bright trim with rubber inserts were optional on Custom & Ranger; standard on R-XLT & Lariat [78-79].

So, you could have a Custom Explorer or Explorer Custom with no side trim?

My 77 is the ranger xlt trim with badges on the outside (passenger side is missing xlt badge, it fell off sometime last summer ) and has the ranger xlt badge on the glove box. It has all of the power options: ps, pb, ac/heat, cc, and the dual tanks. Was the ranger xlt the top of the line trim package for '77?

Correct. Explorers usually came with just chrome wheel arches, and pin striping. Deluxe front bumper with guards and rub strips. Bed rails, sport wheel covers etc. The Ranger package would add more to the custom etc.

Yes, it was. But you could add the XLT Luxury option to it, that made it even nicer. Check the brocure I posted earlier.
