What size Y Block??
I just got a 1955 Ford short 18' school bus ( I just wanted the rebuilt motor ,body is now listed in classifieds for sale) and dont know how to tell the size? is it more than a 292 ? 312? 317? If it is any help there is a stock fan shroud, how do I tell thanks, Fatz

My repair book lists only 239 or 265 (or is it 256?) for 55 trucks other than the bigger Lincoln type used in the bigger F-700's and 800's. 272's were used for next year and after that were 292's.

What size Y Block??
If you know it had the original engine, then find the vin plate and decode the engine type from that. There could be a lot of engine options since it is not a standard truck. Does it have the cross over exhaust pipe in front of the engine or the rams horn type exhaust manifolds? If you can check the drivers side of the block you can get a block casting number with 3 letters but unless you know the year it was made you still can't tell. You will need to find the date code that is hand stamped on the front of the block just in front of the valley pan. With these 2 pieces of info you can tell exactly what engine you have.
