Hello - I just made the jump to the 4" MBRP. Spent about 3 hours installing, etc. The downpipe was a PITA! I followed the instructions to the "t" and went for a test drive when finished. Sounds good from the tailpipe. But I can tell that the downpipe rubs or hits something (firewall or engine?) I tried re-adjusting the pipe twice and cant seem to get it right. It is really quite annoying and loud, not to mention all the crap I am hearing from the Missus. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Ideas?
if you've made all the adjustments you can (loosened every joint and started from the turbo to tighten things up), you're left with one solution...find where it's rubbing and get a block of wood and a BFH..i know, you just bought a new exhaust and it should fit better...it usually doesn't take that much to get rid of the interference...if it is rubbing somewhere in the engine compartment/firewall , no one will see where you massaged the DP..give yourself at least 1/4" clearance..
this solution is better than having it rub through, which will eventually happen..
It shouldn't hit anywhere, Losen it up and try readusting it. Mines been on for about 3 years and doesn't hit anywhere, does come very close to my 35" spare, but thats to be expected.
Well I readjusted again and got it better. Its not 100% but tolerable. Just trying to disassemble the slip-fittings is a PITA! If it returns, I'll remove it and take a BFH to it. Thanks for the suggestions!
Finally fixed the problem. Had to drop the entire thing and take a BFH to the offending area. Now its nice and quite inside...what a difference! And I can hear that turbo sing. Purposely been driving with the RHS vent window open and rear passenger window open just to hear it.
Depending on where it's hitting, you might be better off taking it to a local shop. Mine was just barely touching the gas tank (tight fit back there). I got a shop to just heat up the hangers and adjust them while the were glowing hot. I was out of there and bump-free after about 15 minutes and $20. Might be a better option than a hammer.

Thanks, but the down pipe was hitting the firewall no matter how I adjusted it. Muffler shops are usually leary about working on pipes next to the engine/turbo. Otherwise, I'd much rather of had them adjust it.
