Question about 4 wheel Drive

Hoping someone can answer this one. I have a 04 F-250 4x4, crew cab, 6.0 turbo diesel king ranch with the optional limited slip rear end and brand new Toyo HT tires.
With that said, I'm the first one to sink when I go to the 4 wheel drive beach :-).
I have to reduce tire pressure to 20 lbs each which really affects stearing to get just enough to keep the people in swimsuits from laughing.
One thing I noticed last weekend is even with the lower pressure as soon as I go to the sand I sunk, I noticed my front tires didn't seem to be pulling so I manuel turned to front locks which is what saved me.
I see 100's of people driving through it like it was paved and here I am with a $50 thousand dollar truck sweating.

I thought the front diff was automatic locks or maybe I should be asking, what does Auto mean.
Thanks

Is your 4x4 switch on the dash, or do you have the lever on the floor? If it's on the floor, you do not have the auto hubs.

If your switch is on the dash, then you have ESOF. If your hubs don't automatically lock, then a vacuum leak is likely, and it's probably the vacuum lines right at the front hubs.

Last, diesels are HEAVY! These trucks will sink, that's why they aren't the best performers in the sand or mud compared to, say, a Jeep.

Like he said above.... your somuch heavier . Also, guess I have never seen a auto locking axel that had manuels also. If you have hubs that you can lock by hand , then they are not auto lockers.

Actually, the auto hubs have two positions: Auto and Locked. So you can manually lock the front hubs, which is good since the vacuum system isn't always reliable.

Pocket is right on this one, most likely keepnbusy has ESOF I believe most KRs are ESOF, if they don't lock in 4wd when you flip the switch more than likely the hubs are leaking, common problem for SD's. You may also want try different tires, some of the mud tires don't do so well in sand because they tend to dig down instead of float on top. But probably you biggest down fall is you have a PSD which isn't the greatest for going in sand or mud because they are so heavy and sink quick. PSD are several 1,000lbs heavier than say a jeep or even a gas SD.
