Tow wiring question

Last week I purchased a 97 f-150 4x4 for 1500 off of my cousin. the truck is in beautiful shape. Shines like a champ. I am now wanting to put a reese hitch on it . It has the factory 4 pin on it and regular bumper. I went to the junkyard yesterday I ended up finding a factory hitch for it with factory harness and 7 pin hooked to it with plugs. one big plug and one little plug. Does anyone know if i can hook that one up to my truck or should i just discard it. Now i do relize that depends if the harness is even good. But i figured that i would give it a shot. I want to put a 7 pin on it anyways because i had one on my old truck and then i also want to take my brake control off of my ole f-150 and put it on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It should hook up the same way on your 97 like it did on the junk yard truck. Mine cuts into my tail lights. You can also buy adapters so you can run 7 pin and 4 pin.

the harness to the back end has a big plug between the rear tire and gas tank up in the body frame. the back harness plugs into that and goes to the rear lights and hitch. you can unplug the present harness and just plug in your new harness, if it is good.. ther rear harnesses were two different types, 4 pin and 7 pin. you might need a relay or two up under the hood in the fuse box to get power to the 7 pin hitch for trailer brakes.
