just pulled my double axle trailer and bobcat - around 10,000lbs with decent wind resistance (bobcat toolcat with cab). 65mph with no wind pretty flat - 8.9mpg. return trip without trailer at 65mph - 13.7 mpg - not bad empty. i find i can get 13 at 72 empty. the stop and go is what kills the mpg given the wt of this truck. rural around town gets around 8.8 with no lead footing.
Are those mpg numbers off the dash meter or hand calc? Mine with about 9500 miles will now make low 12s at 72, but the dasg meter will say 12.8-13. It is consistantly .6-.8 above reality.
Truckin Mag had the same thing when they did a coast to coast trip with the 08 6.4L, only it was way off like whole mils to a gallon, the dash read 11.3 and when they hand calculated it, it was 8.7 big difference. this was the article 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty - Custom Truck's - Truckin' Magazine
It dosnt say the numbers but i looked it up they did this trip when gas was 2.59 in mississippi and 3.79 in Texas lol

those are off the lie-o-meter. until i take a long trip i will not know if they are accurate???
If I clear the dash display at fuel stops, I find my 05 to be pretty acurate. You always assume that if you hand calculate it is more accurqte but it might not be. Even a 1/4 gallon difference when you fill up would be almost a 1% difference.

I know what you are saying, but mine is very consistent. Fill after fill mine is that .6-.8 optimistic. Run an average over 3 to 5 tanks and it is the same. Surely earns the lie-o-meter nick name. Still a usefull tool to note changes since it is consistent.
